If you’re a Colorado resident that enjoys donating your time to worthy causes, and you take pleasure in partaking in a puff or two, then you might be interested in a novel endeavor to help keep our state clean while scoring a bit of free weed to boot. Steve Pacheco, owner of The Pothole cannabis club located in Colorado Springs, has organized an effort to keep his neck of the woods free of trash by offering participants free cannabis in exchange for their nobility.
Said endeavor started at Vermijo Park where volunteers were offered a reward of one pre rolled joint per bag of litter they collected and returned to Pacheco. “As you bring bags of trash back to me, I’m going to give you a joint per bag you bring back,” he explained to his group of cannabis loving contributors.
What better motivation to be the person who turns in the most bags, right? However, for those that were participating in the undertaking it was more than just collected trash equalling a pot prize, it was about keeping the place where they live, well, liveable. Colorado’s natural beauty is almost unrivaled, so seeing tons of litter can be very disheartening.
Pacheco had more than cleaning up parks in mind when he came up with his somewhat unconventional idea to offer folks free joints in exchange for picking up trash.
“I hike every single day and I see trash on every single trail and it saddens me,” said Myles Christensen, a volunteer for the project. And those that use the park are more than eager to offer their time for such a good cause. “It feels good to actually go pick the trash up, you know. I don’t mind it because I use the trail,” said Danny Winfree. Pacheco had more than cleaning up parks in mind when he came up with his somewhat unconventional idea to offer folks free joints in exchange for picking up trash. He also had intentions of sprucing up the legal cannabis industry’s reputation by showing “that we are a positive impact, you know, there’s nothing wrong with weed and there’s nothing wrong with our kind of people,” explained Pacheco.
It’s not as if the legal cannabis industry has proven to have a negative impact on any state that has chosen to enact laws allowing it to exist. Although, every extra effort we can give only helps make certain that those who frown upon legal cannabis have even less reason to hold on to their grudges.
