I’m not sure what it is about 2016, but it has turned into a bit of a nightmare for some of the industry’s biggest cannabis events and festivals. High Times ran into some major roadblocks when trying to schedule their cup in Colorado, and then the Denver 420 Rally had some major issues of its own. The Cannabis Cup did its best considering the circumstances by holding the cup in So Cal and having the awards show in Colorado. The Denver 420 Rally looked to be a much bigger disaster however, as many people were threatened with no refunds after the event was cancelled. Luckily they’ve put the time and effort in to reschedule the event a month later.
The original Denver 420 Rally on April 16 was looking like it could be snowed out, but the event planners said the show must go on. That is, until Denver got slammed with snow. The rally had to be postponed and many believed that they missed their chance to see headliners Wiz Khalifa and Lil Wayne, not to mention the wasted cash. After the backlash from customers regarding the no refund policy, organizers set to work to secure another location for the event. They played with multiple ideas for locations, but managed to secure the Civic Center on Saturday, May 21.
The rescheduled event is basically just the original event as promised, but that was no easy feat. They managed to rebook Wiz Khalifa and Lil Wayne to perform on the new dates and are thrilled to secure the Civic Center as the location. The new event will still be honoring all tickets purchased for the April 16th show. MassRoots is the sponsor for the event, and they seem to think the extra time will allow them to plan an even bigger and better event. It’s unlikely that anyone in Denver had too hard of a time finding festivities for 4/20 so maybe this is a blessing in disguise. Let’s all keep our fingers crossed that the weather is much nicer this time around.
