It’s time to review another one of the big names in California edibles, Kiva Confections. This company has been around for over five years now. They originally got started because they saw a huge lack of consistency and potency information available in the edibles that were being made in California. Kiva strives to make some very strong and very tasty chocolate bars. They definitely succeed in doing that. Their main potency level for a chocolate bar is 180 mg. That’s pretty strong, but Kiva divides it into four 45 mg sections for sharing, or saving. They also offer a lower potency 60 mg option that breaks into four 15 mg pieces for the people with lower tolerances. The chocolate bars are definitely delicious and I’m not the only one that thinks so, because they’ve won multiple High Times Cannabis Cups in California. They’ve got six different varieties of candy bars, and I was lucky enough to get to check out four of them.
I’ll start with the Mint Irish Cream. This was one of the two milk chocolate options, which would be my favorite type of chocolate, but a lot of times I find that in edibles a dark chocolate covers up the cannabis flavor better. This might have been the case with this flavor, but that being said the weed flavor was still subtle. Some people actually love being able to still get a hint of ganja in their edibles and this was the weediest of the bunch. Still very tasty and potent. I had no problem eating the whole thing, even as someone that isn’t that big on sweets. It was a great high, but other people might wanna take it a bit slower than taking on a full bar.
The Dark Chocolate Tangerine flavored candy bar was virtually exactly what I expected. Delicious! The dark chocolate and tangerine not only compliment each other well, with one being sweet and the other bitter, but they perfectly mask the cannabis taste. This one really morphs in your mouth flavor wise. You start with the dark chocolate, but then slowly it melts and you get hit with the sweet tangerine flavor that lingers and makes you want more.
My favorite dark chocolate option actually had to go to the Blackberry Dark Chocolate bar. This thing was my second favorite overall and really blew me away. The same effect as the tangerine bar with the flavor morph, but this time the blackberry hits you much faster and much stronger. Once again it leaves you wanting more. This one reminds me of another one of their products that they offer, which are milk chocolate covered blueberries. Remember to eat this one slow if you’re a newbie, because you might look down and realize it’s gone.
My number one favorite bar that I tried from Kiva was their Vanilla Chai Milk Chocolate bar. This thing was just what the doctor ordered. I’ll admit that I’m biased because a vanilla chocolate bar, as unorthodox as that sounds, is exactly what I love more than anything. This thing was so smooth and mouth watering I wished I had gotten two. The chocolate was so rich that I could hardly believe it. I was surprised by how strong the vanilla flavor was considering it still had a brown chocolate color. I definitely fell in love with this one and know what I’d get next time.
Kiva has a few more products that I haven’t even touched base on and is dominating California now that they’re in over 800 dispensaries statewide. Be on the lookout for this award winning chocolate to be in a dispensary near you.
