There are lots of edible companies out there that are all trying to fill their own niche in the cannabis market. Some are going for the caffeine addicted coffee lovers, while others are more interested in just perfecting the chocolate bar or brownie. One relatively new company is going for a much higher end target market with their delectable edible gourmet desserts. The company behind these high quality French cannabis pastries is called Madame Munchie. Madame Munchie got it’s start in 2014 in San Francisco. The company took the bay area by storm by winning a High Times Cannabis Cup shortly after being founded. The company is the brainchild of two women visionaries that want to change the bad stigma behind cannabis. Madame Munchie offers five different flavors of their gluten free and lab tested macarons. Each one comes in a low 20 mg dose that appeals more to the dessert connoisseur over the cannabis connoisseur. They can be bought individually or all together to equal 100 mg in total. These macarons might be a tad spendy, but it’s the high quality French pastry dessert that you’re paying for and the cannabis aftermath is just icing on the cake.
Out of the five different flavors there were a few that I thought really stood out. The Hazelnut Mocha tasted like fudge chocolate mixed with a little coffee after taste. I will say that none of these tasted like weed in the slightest. The texture was pretty unique. I had two of each and had a bit of mixed results that I think depended on the packaging. One was a bit drier and more crumbly than the other, but both were very good. In fact, I’m not sure which way I’d prefer it if someone didn’t tell me which way it was supposed to be.
The most unique flavor to me was the grilled peanut butter and jelly macaron. This treat certainly lived up to its namesake. It not only tasted just like a peanut butter and jelly sandwich, but it even had a faint taste of being grilled. It is kind of crazy, really… This might not have actually been my favorite flavor overall, but I was pretty darn impressed by how accurately they portrayed a longtime favorite with a twist. The aesthetic makes you pretty nostalgic as well. While most of these will make you feel like a high class stoner, this one is kind of a throw back to your younger years.
My personal favorite flavor was probably Tropical Jungle. This thing is not what you’d expect at all from its name or from looking at it. This macaron is completely rainbow colored, but instead of having a tropical or sweet fruity flavor it is actually chocolate banana. Despite the crazy coloration the flavor is on point when it comes to this one. There are only two other options, that were both pretty dank, so it is really pretty darn hard to go wrong with Madame Munchie at this point.
Madame Munchie is an important company for this business because it represents the potential for other cultures to embrace cannabis and for the negative stigmas that surround the plant to finally fade away. I’ll admit myself that I think the first time I was introduced to this grade of high class French dessert pastry was from this edible company and perhaps in the future that won’t be so strange.
